Re: Green anoles

If the Anolis are captive bred (free of parasite loads), there is no problem with them being used as feeders and have a much greater nutritional value than insects. I have used lizards as feeders for some of my monitors, especially tree monitors, which are an eagerly eaten prey item. I would worry less about what is popular and more about what is good for your monitor.

There in lies another rub to the idea that I did not think about.
99% of the Anoles sold in the US are WC from Fla.
I think there is even an ad on KS right now that promises the Anoles your buy will be caught the day before they ship them to you.

Thats what i wanted to do, breed my own and in the wild im sure they eat a lot of little lizards i mean its an arid environment and im sure there is enough little lizards out there that monitors eat them frequently enough

besides its not like its going to be on a daily basis, maby once a week to vary its diet,

im trying to vary the diet as much as possible but also make it so a lot of its diet can come from things i can breed myself (dont really feel like or have the room to breed rats/mice)

Re: Green anoles

They are so cute, nasty, and taste good with ketchup. I would be lying if I said I had never put a wild caught lizard in for my monitors. I try not to due to the parasites and other unknown stuff in them.

Re: Green anoles

I would definitely recommend the Anolis over Hemidactylus or any of the other house geckos. For some reason, mine do not like them, but do go for Iguania (like Anolis, but in my case Calotes). I did make a mistake of thinking the aversion to house geckos extended to Gekko. Mistake: I had put a hatchling G. gecko in with my Varanus prasinus until I could set up another enclosure. When I came back in all I saw was a black and white banded tail hanging out of the mouth. My new place has 5 Gekko gecko in the temporary house and many others on the property, so no need to keep any in enclosures.
