Is there such a thing???? I have been thinking about getting a monitor. I don't want somethng that gets HUGE, about 4 foot tops. I've thought about ackies, but I would like to know what my options are. And of coarse I'm not the type of person that gets into an animal without research. Big no no!
TYIA,
Kim

I think an ackie would be a good choice. I have read that Savannah's will 'tame' down somewhat with lots of love and attention.
Good luck with whatever you decide on, they are neat lizards!

The only advice I can give about that is that Niles are NOT good beginer monitors.
Good luck!

Avoid anything labelled as a 'water monitor'.
Along with the other recommendations made here, I'd throw in tree monitors. Assuming you can afford the price tag. =)

I thought so too, but I was hoping to find somethin a little bigger. And I don't think Savannahs are pretty enough. (Sorry)
I love the look of black throats and peach throats. Prehistoric!
Thanks again,
Kim

Dumerils monitors are the best I've come across so far. All monitor claws and tails [and teeth, of course] are murder on our delicate human skin, but peach throats take it to a whole new level. Fpr being moderately petite, these guys can tear you up pretty fast. One of the most beautiful varanids, though. Although they generally seem to be very skittish and flighty.

I was gonna say the Dumerils ones also Cpn. They seem to be on the "tamer" side and also don't get as huge as some of the others even.

Exactly...though, if 'prettiness' is a factor for choosing, I doubt they'll choose a dumeril. They're gorgeous as babies, but they tend to dull down to nice shades of charcoals, browns, and greens as adults.
Still an excellent species to start with, though.

What about "Ackies" they are smaller mild tempered.
Not tooo expensive either, what you make up for in price of the animal, you save on the cost of housing : )
