Confused Argus Video
This is a funny video of the first chick that this argus has ever eaten. I haven't laughed so hard at a monitor in a long time.

Re: Confused Argus Video
Argus are the best monitor in my opinion. If you have the room for a large enclosure and money for food, then get one. (half of my freezer is mice, rats, and chicks) I smile every time they run to me when I feed them.
I tired to get a video of him tripoding to reach mice, but the battery died.
Can you tell that I really love argus? HAHA

My enclosure is 8X4X4 and I need to make it larger
The food would cost a ton unless you buy in bulk from rodentpro.com or some other frozen feeder place. The key is to fill them up daily as they are growing. So an 18 inch argus will eat an adult mouse daily and eats more as it gets bigger.
tame down? HAHA, if you have a tame argus there has to have some type of problem with it. They aren't known to bite, but they will if threatened and they have serrated teeth. The main thing to watch out for is the whip of a tail and those sharp claws. They are very active and basically fearless. If you try to hold one, it will whip and squirm constantly.
I once tried to put two males together before I realized they were both males. You have never see so much projectile poop in your life. After almost puking from the smell, I had to clean the walls, floor and myself off. That was the most disgusting things I have ever had to do.
I love them because they are a muscular, fearless, animal that acts like it just drank a Red Bull. I consider them reptilian pitbulls on speed! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
For the record, I did keep a calm one for a while. It was a small male of only 3 feet. Males usually reach 4 or more feet in length. It still did not like being held.

I don't know about that. I briefly cared for a pair of Ackies and they were my favorite lizards by far. So curious, did not mind human contact, and the feeding bill was much cheaper than feeding a 30 pound black throat or nice size lace monitor.
I have met some pretty nice black throat and savannah monitors but I think I will just stick to big snakes for a while " or until I turn my basement into a rainforest".

Re: Confused Argus Video
Beautiful video Ed. It was the wings wasn't it. Even my black throat has a problem eating birds. Do you have your Argus kept together in that cage?

Re: Confused Argus Video
The chicks feet were sticking out of the argus' mouth by it's eyes. The poor argus did not know what to do. HAHA
These two have been together since I got them. At times there is some hissing, and chasing, but I have never had a bad incident yet. There was one time when they were smaller and the smaller male (how times change, HAHA) had a perfect set of teeth marks on his back. It was not bad and I watched them closely after that. That is the only marks I have ever seen on either of them from the other. They soon got a larger enclosure.
I had two argus a few years back that were males. One of them gave the other a bad bite. They never got put together after that. The cut would have required me to get stitches, but the argus totally healed in less than a week. Their ability to recover is amazing so little cuts or scrapes I don't worry about.

Re: Confused Argus Video
Thanks, good to know. Are you going to be building a large enclosure for them?

Re: Confused Argus Video
I will eventually add on to the back of this enclosure. I am not in a huge hurry, but I want to have it done this summer.
Raz. I think you need a black tree monitor. It would go very nicely into your boa enclosure with a few modifications.

Re: Confused Argus Video
Sadly I can't afford another animal. How ever I will be selling that boa cage to the gentleman that gave us the blackthroat and I believe he wants a black tree monitor to go in it, but CBB species or adoptions for tree monitors are kind of hard to find.

Re: Confused Argus Video
Ha, cute video, adorable argus.
"I love them because they are a muscular, fearless, animal that acts like it just drank a Red Bull. I consider them reptilian pitbulls on speed! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!"
Don't stereotype pit bulls. Pit bulls are sedate, benevolent beings. If it has to be a dog reference, try canis presario or the caucasian ovcharka... now THOSE dogs are the ones with a rep WORSE than pit bulls... and yet hardly anyone knows about them. Go figure. o.O
I'd love to have a cage big enough for a really large monitor. I want a B&W argentine tegu.... I'm in love with the males' big fat cheeks. I could squish them to death over and over and over. lol

Re: Confused Argus Video
Raz, I know where a good blacktree that was a rescue can be found. She is healthy and eats for me every day. HAHA
Xeikeness, I am sorry if I offended you. I did not mean that pitbulls were aggressive by nature. The male argus with his muscular legs, chest, and jaws reminds me of a pitbull. Not his aggressiveness. My argus are by no means mean.
The meanest dog I have seen is a former neighbor's dalmation. One of the sweetest was my wife's old rottweiler. Nothing compares to my lab and great dane now, though.

Re: Confused Argus Video
lol, no you didn't offend me. It's just like...
You know when you're sitting at a park bench, and a kid picks up what you're -sure- is a thumbtack and lifts his hand to put it in his mouth? It's the same instinct that hits you then. Not anger or insult or anything, just "Gah! No!"
Dunno how else to describe it. lol
Yeah dalmations are horrid dogs in my experience as a trainer... Rots, pits, danes, mastiffs, leonbergers... all the best dogs I've encounterred. Oh! And newfies. lol
But you are right, they do have a pretty pit-bull sort of build. Stocky and pigeon toed.

Re: Confused Argus Video
Pit bulls also have a ton of energy, just like an Argus.
Ed, I will see if he wants to take it of your hands when he takes this enclosure.
