Re: Nile
The large water feature should help, and a filter makes great white noise, to drown out the sound of you approaching the cage.

Re: Nile
Depends on the monitor, Ours would vomit when she heard our bedroom door open, so the white noise helped us move around the house and in the cage with out her vomiting.

Many monitors will "lighten the load" by vomiting before taking off and escaping a great distance from their "predator". Stick one in a cage with no room to run and you can easily get a regurgitation, a defecation, then a dive into the water bin/ a hide/ or a burrow. It took 2 years before our water monitor stopped vomiting at the site of a human or the sound of a door opening. Each monitor handles captivity differently and some do not adjust well.

Re: Nile
From my experience, that is rare in captivity. In fact, I have never seen it myself or talked to anyone who had it happen in captivity. The only time I have seen monitors really regurge is if they were fed right before shipping. I have talked to people who have had a select few wild monitors regurge during capture. But this is the first instance of defensive regurgitation I have heard about with a captive monitor. If a door opening causes your monitor to regurge, then you have possibly the most neurotic lizard i have ever heard of lol

no regurge here, just eyeballing, back arching, hissing and whipping every once in a while.
