no...you cant, unless it is for breeding, and even then it can be dangerous.

Re: can i put 2 moniters together
is that because they dont know each other and will fight, or is it because they are territorial. if it is because they dont know each other coould they be introduced slowly or is them being together just not a option

Re: can i put 2 moniters together
It is just a bad idea in general. Why make your life more stressful than it has to be by keeping two animals together and risking them killing each other?
If you want two pets, have two enclosures.

if ever, not until they are the same size... it would be an awful idea to put them together now.

Re: can i put 2 moniters together
Its just a bad idea to house 2 reptiles together unless you are breeding. first off they could kill eachother and second if one gets sick they both get sick.

Re: can i put 2 moniters together
Territorial, Yes but many varanids are cannibalistic so you have more to worry about than a territorial dispute. I am not sure if there has been documentation of Exanthematicus eating their own but it is very common in komodos.

Re: can i put 2 moniters together
I am not saying to do this, but if you must put them together here are some ideas that may help get them used to each other.
-Place the enclosures where they can see each other- so they can see each other
-After a long period of time put the poop from one enclosure into the other- so they will smell each others poop.
-after another long period of time put them together in a neutral place and be able to separate them quickly if needed.
-then keep a very close eye on them
-Keep a second enclosure ready if they need to be separated for any reason.

Re: can i put 2 moniters together
thank you for the help. but after learning a bit more about muffin and biscuit i think that is why you dont cook muffins the same way you do biscuits. they just dont go together, lol. so i am going to split my big cage in to two sections and let them have there own domain just to be on the safe side.
but thank you for the advise and help

Re: can i put 2 moniters together
How big is this big cage? To house two savannahs properly it should be 12'L x 6'W x 4'T.

Re: can i put 2 moniters together
well since they are not huge yet, and i live in an appartment for now i could only do so much as far as a cage. its 6 feet long, 5 feet high, 2.5 feet deep. right now i have a ramp going from the bottom to the top and have it divided in to but i will get rid of the ramp and just have it set as 2 diff sections of the cage.

Re: can i put 2 moniters together
um... hey guys, I don't know anything about savs and the like, but I know odatria are social creatures. As long as they're raised together there shouldn't be territory squabbles, so if I'm missing something about large African monitors, then young monitors can be raised together. If you're saying this is wrong, then all the successful keepers, FR, Bob Mendyk, Dave (crocdoc), Michael Cota, etc. should all have dead monitors. Some keepers have even had complete life cycles within the animals enclosure and have had hatchlings living with adult pairs. Although I agree it's correct that an inexperienced keeper should be warned about the dangers of keeping animals together, with some animals it's not completely wrong.

Dave keeps his laces separated, as does Michael.
