Im worried about my new sav.
Ok, I got a new sav. monitor and he's not acting like the typical monitor. Granted, I just got him yesterday but he's looking pretty puny and not moving around alot. The first thing I did when I got him was a good soaking to fully hydrate him. Then, I put him in his tank and let him be. He has no food response and he has some wrinkles on his side which show me that he hasn't eaten alot in the past. The base temp is around 76-80 with a hot/basking spot of around 100. Is there anything else I can do to help this little guy? I thought about offering him a pinky to see is that would encourage feeding but I don't know?

Re: Im worried about my new sav.
I don't know much about savs, or monitors in general, but where did you get him from..? Was he active from the place you picked him up at? If he's from a petshop, it could be that he's a bit emaciated... sadly, something that happens at most petshops due to misinformation, or just plain carelessness..
He could be a little stressed and just needs to get used to his surroundings before he perks up, but he should at least be checking his enclosure out by now, I'm sure. Still, Raze'd have some better advice as he deals with monitors.. I'm just stating what I think might be wrong, but don't jump on any advice from me. XD Wait for the ones with more experience to state their opinion, eh?

Re: Im worried about my new sav.
if you got him just yesterday then he is probably stressed, i would give him some time to himself, but wait for one of the monitor people to spring in here, that is just my guess

Re: Im worried about my new sav.
Well, I decided to give him an egg to see if that would perk him up a bit. Nothing doing right now but ill give it some time.

Re: Im worried about my new sav.
You might want to kick up the ambient temps to the mid to upper 80s.

Re: Im worried about my new sav.
Higher basking temps won't hurt, 120 F basking will kill internal parasites, and is considered safe for your savvie. I agree that the lowest temps should be around the 80 to mid 80 mark.
It's possible he's just really stressed after the move, but parasites are pretty common in the WC savs.
Offering a pink won't hurt anything

Re: Im worried about my new sav.
Don't know about monitors, but he sounds stressed and possibly malnourished/ sick. Send pictures if possible and wait for the experts' advice which I am sure will be along any moment!
Best of luck.

Re: Im worried about my new sav.
i would take him to an experienced herp vet in a few days if he doesnt get better. there is a saying with monitors, "keep em hot and feed em a lot". their basking temp can be about 125F i think,

Re: Im worried about my new sav.
I agree with that as well, if after raising the temps your little guy doesn't perk up soon I'd find a good vet ASAP
