wow! this took a long time to respond huh!
anyway, no. unless you can put the food in somthing big enough to make sure he doesn't eat any substrate. the substrate could cause impaction, mouthrot.......
my Shamika (black tegu) is the only animal that eats in her cage, I feed her with a food dish inside a top of a puzzle box lid to make sure what food does fall out of the dish never goes on her substrate, that way she can't eat any. -Juggalo

I have personally been using a rubbermaid tote to feed my sav...I noticed that when I was feeding him inside his cage, as soon as my hand entered, he assumed it was chow time...and always had a go at me...now he knows it's chow time when he's in the box...and then he goes into berzerk/kill/food mode....But, I agree totally with Jugg as well, just thought I'd let you know that feed boxes tend to work well too....

i agree i feed all of my lizards in a rubbermade tub. my daughter got the stuffing bit out of her by my savannah when she was putting crickets in her tank. we wont do that again. impaction is the big thing. my savy rubs all her food around on the ground and beats it up
