I really think this should be left to someone who can properly ID it and not provide just guesswork. Jville, have you tried www.varanus.net ? There are monitor experts there if no one here can ID it.

savannah monitor, or varanus exanthematicus. i have seen savs with orange or black lines on the head by the eyes before and seen savs with no striping whatsoever. it's a locality difference but still the same species. just like common boas that have pink on the cheeks vs common boas that have no pink. same with some pink cheeked burmese pythons.
i do hope that is not the savannahs enclosure and just a transport cage. it will certainly not last in something like that.

Hey , It's FOR SURE a Savanah!! White's or Black Throat's are Southern Africa Monitor's and have MUCH More Body Color - Darker Back pattern's w/ Orange or yellow in the side Medallion's. He looks young , so you can still Tame it into "Pussy-Cat" friendly!! Remember! A Well Fed Lizard is a Happy Lizard!!

that cage is just a sun cage i had him outside for the day on my porch. right now he is in a 30 gallon until i get one of the 55gallon tanks i have home have no way to move them yet. what also got me was the white throat it has it is as white as snow. i also have a 3 foot blackthroat at home and it is very friendly. i only use them cages for sunny my lizards becuase they like to be outside where it is hot

how long is it. rememberthat general monitor requirements are twice the length of the lizard for cage length. and 1 or 1.5 times the lizards length for cage width.
my 3.5 ft argus has an enclosure 8ft long by 4ft wide. i would not go smaller than that. it is also 4ft to allow for over 1.5ft of soil (the best substrate for them) and she digs through all of it.
i keep it hot enough in the cages and proper lighting. i never take mine out, it can be stressful to them unless started young.

right now the small monitor is only 12 inches so so they cage is is fine. when i get the space i will build a larger encloser for them but for now there cages are of standard size. and in reality the young oneis fine to start sunning outside becuase i think it needs the extra uv. i try to keep all my reptiles in standard size cages atleast by florida state regulations. all i wanted to know if the monitor is a normal savannah becuase i never seen anything like it. i was thinking it might be a sav/whitethroat cross becuase my friend who has a pair of white throat says it looks like one
