Want to Display my Nile more..
I have had my nile for over a month now and he is gaining weight and looking better the cage i have right now is huge. Its a 5 foot even all around box with 2 feet of dirt. I was wondering if i wanted to put him in my room in a glass tank or a custom cage what size would be suitable? I have a fairly small room so a six foot long is way to big he is still young probably 2 foot. How long would a 40 gallon breeder last me? Or should i think more towards a boaphile expandable 4 foot so when he hits around 4 foot i make it an 8 footer? Let me know what you all think.
Thanks

don't bother with the 40 breeder. you will need a minimum of a 120 gallon or a 100 gallon breeder. i have a 100 that is 4x2x2 for my redtail. your substrate will only be 10-12 inches, but will suffice for a 2ft nile. these are minimums requirements. if you can provide a 6ft enclosure in another room, you are better off. especially if the room has low house traffic/activity.

Dachande, what do you recommend for housing a savannah as an adult?
Ive seen the horse troughs, and I dont mind doing that, but I will probably allow my sav to be a limited free roam for a few hours at least a day.
I was wondering if a cage like the tileboard 6ftL x 3ftW x 2H would hold a sav appropriately, or if it should be more sturdy..
Not trying to hijack the thread, but it seemed like a good place to tack on a housing question for a monitor

i would go 4ft on height. this allows for proper soil depth and for structure to climb upon. even terrestrial monitors such as savannahs enjoy climbing upon rocks to see over a territory or survey the area for activity. it also allows for the elevated basking area.
your width and length can suffice. it never hurts to add a foot or 2 though.

Great thanks for the help!! I will probably start a new thread for some more advice involving caging ideas, and substrates, I'll post some pics of the appropriately named "golfball on legs" then

if you are really pressed for space you could keep your nile in a 40 gal for about a year, as long as he doesnt have an amazing growth spurt. my nile is almost 2 years and is only 30 inches or so. you can find them on craigslist for super cheap.
