Simulated moonlight

I came across a line of aquarium products that are designed to simulate moonlight (hence the title of this post, clever huh?) Their main use is in coral tanks to encourage spawning behaviour, but I would like to know if anyone here thinks that this type of system might have any value if it was included in a monitor tank. Personally I don't really think it will, but as I am all about simulating the natural environment as closely as possible, I would like to know what evryone thinks.
Regards,
AJS

i agree with your personal opinion AJS. with water, the moon has many effects such as tide and the spawning behavior you mentioned. however on land, it simply reflects the sun's light. there's the whole full moon thing and that is all i really know of moonlight affecting behavior in fauna (including ourselves). it can affect plants as well. but in a captive situation for monitors, i don't think it will be of importance.

Thanks for the reply. That was my main reason for not thinking the lights would be of any value. Also, if lunar cycles do have any effect on behaviour (which is debatable) then I would think it was down to gravitational forces, not the light itself. Like I said, really I was just curious to see what everyone else thought about these.
Warm regards,
AJS
