Bad shed, Any tips for getting it off?
T hasn't been shedding very well lately. He is on top soil and its hard to keep it moist enough until lately. I set up an auto wet system. Well, he apparently has some stuck pieces of skin. I am soking him now but I am not sure what else I can do since it won't come off. Can I soak him in a water and olive oil bath or something to losen it up? I need some help please.

Jake, I used olive oil and water when my tree boa had a bad shed...I just held her in it and gently rubbed until it was all off....it didn't take long and I didn't even get bit Good luck!

Will vegitable oil work? I think the olive oil I have here is expensive. Can I use oil and water or will I just be able to use oil?

I dont know about lizards, but with snakes you can put them in a pillowcase, or laundry bag if you have one..and fill up a tub with 1" of water maybe a couple of drops of oil in there too..and soak them for a few mins...They will move around in the pillowcase and work the shed off themselves usually..
Like I said, dont know about lizards, but I dont know why it wouldnt work..
Just drizzle a little on his back to get the case really wet so it helps soften it up some..

Another idea I had for smaller lizards (that cant jump a mile high)
My daughter has a round toy bucket, pretty good sized, so I filled that up with about a 1/2" of water and let my water dragon soak..He hates the tub and tries to scramble out, so this was a little better. At least it was flat

Quite a few vampires around the redtailboa.net forum LMAO Everyone seems to love seeing bite pics. Still laughing at the idea of a slick, greasy lizard shooting off - try and catch that!! My sav has never bitten yet or even tried - I'm sure he's just saving it up for the big one when he's fully grown!! How old is Tess now, Jake? and how big?

best stuff i found
i used this stuff i got from a pet store for my iguana once and my 1st redtail.. i think it was Natures Way or a Four Paws product, but it comes in a white box with an iguana on it and the bottle is green. any time i've had trouble with sheds fromtips of snake tails to leopard gecko toes, this stuff worked for me.
but with monitors i never had to use it. i would just soak 'em in the tub for a while.
how deep is your soil and what does it look like on the bottom? is more than the top 2'' staying dry?

Well the soil isn't more than 4" deep now. I am working on picking up some more dirt when I get some money on hand

2 ft monitor goes with at least 1ft soil. any big hide logs and caves, bury them. bout where the top is only a couple of inches under it. when this much soil comes into play, spraying down becomes hosing down or soaking the cage.
i'm about to move soon and my new place is gonna have a hose bib inside . it'll make soaking that 200+lbs of dirt easier if i have a garden hose with a spray nozzle on the end. in the house. then i won't have to leave the door cracked anymore.
