ya, they are sharp... the fronts he wears down digging but the rears are razors.
I would say it is around a foot and a half maybe getting close to 2 feet.. I should try to find out for real tho.
His temper is good, he is used to me but still doesnt like to be handled.. he will hang out in my room tho and just explore. He will hiss a little when handled but never bite or whip.

here's my argus. her name is Mudd.

she's a little over 3ft. argus aren't typically tolerant of handling. mine is very aggressive in her enclosure when feeding and defensive when not. they have a feeding response unlike any monitor i know of.
however if she is out i can pretty much scoop her up when i want with little to no fuss.
yeh, gotta watch those claws. makes them effecient burrow excavators.

What gorgeous monitors!! My Sav (still getting used to us) can be a little bugger sometimes when in his viv - seems he's decided there's certain parts of his viv he can be in and we aren't allowed to go near him without a tail whip and in other parts he'll let us scritch him and pick him up. Once out, he too, is fine - but I haven't actually let him have the run of a room yet cos he's still a bit small and might get lost. NOTE TO SELF: Must start monitor proofing the room.
I read on one of the zillion of caresheets across the net that you should file monitor claws once a week ... but I haven't tried yet
EDIT: Oooh - just realized I'm now a regular RTB User - no more "Newbie" prefix

be careful most people say not to clip them because of the veins in the claws...

clipping nails is no different then clipping a cat or dogs nails you always have to be careful
make sure you have some quick stop if you get them to short
quick stop can be found at any pet store

Awesome pics guys~!! My girlfriend and I are debating on whether we want to buy a Tegu or Savannah at the next reptile show. It's in June so we still have some time to make up our minds. I want a B&W Tegu or Savannah and she wants a red Tegu. Decisions decisions Haha

Well most people have seen pics of T my sav but here they are anyways. He is still pretty mean. Monitors are a lot more work than I assumed before. Between poops, feeding, bulky cages, and a somewhat bad attitude they are a handful but really rewarding in the end
