Help! Savannah Bit Off Toe While Hunting!
Please help, my sav. bit off his middle toe lunging for food.... I dont think there is any thing i can do, but if you have any help at all it will be really aprecated. He's my best bud and I dont want him to die of infection, but he might not get infected because this hapenned yesterday and besides a little swelling where the toe used to be, there's nothing. ( I think the toe-swelling may be to stop him from bleeding to death if he were in the wild.) So again, please help!

Obviously a vet visit is your best bet but failing that you could put him on clean substate, non-adhesive shelf liner or newspaper perhaps, and put some antibiotic ointment on it. Lizards lose toes on a fairly regular basis, they rarely die of it.

i agree with what has been said. take it to the vet just to be sure nothing is wrong. my iguana did the same thing a few years back, and nothing happened. it just healed up, and never really seemed to bother him. dont worry your self to much. good luck.

That's why I don't keep lizards. How dumb is that to bite off your own toe?

there pretty smart just become crazy psychos around food. If this is the same person who started the thread on getting a new lizard b/c his bit his toe off im glad youve chosen to help the one you have instead. He will be fine i suggest no baths if you give any for a little while maybe a week and then a bath in regular water would be ok it would probably clean it out a bit but anyone correct me if im wrong.

I don't know about posting pics, but the bleeding has subsided and he shows no signs of discomfort. He's a real sweetie... let me take him to the vet after he got hurt and didn't lash out or anything, just sat there looking around. Still lets me hold him too, I'll be reading a book and he'll fall asleep on my lap. I think that the only thing that's different is that he's missing a toe.

It won't affect him at all. As soon as it heals up he'll be just as functional as ever.

by the time I rescued my sav he lost almost all his toes by what the other owner called "agressive cage mate" oy vey. poor little guy just has nubs or they are fully gone.
It wont affect him long term. No worries.
