savanna food

i seen on a site somewhere that savanna monitors can eat ground turkey, i was wondering why they cant eat ground cows or ground deer? im not asking for me or anyone else i was just curious. lol even though i would like to get a monitor (savanna or argus) in the next year or two

I dont see why they couldnt I mean as long its somthing you would eat to. Like if you found roadkill deer NOOO but if you shot it why not?

yea ive been wondering why everyone always reccomends turkey but never beef. the deer was just an idea because deer meat doesnt have much fat but i think beef might have too much fat in it for them to eat

Yes I think deer meat is safe cause my friends savannha ate it when he got a deer, and that lizards is alive and well after 2 years of eating it.

I know for tegus we recommend it because it's a lean meat and is just healthier then beef or pork...but I have no idea about deer to be honest.

if you can stick to whole prey items...if you want to feed chopped meat you should stick with supplimented turkey...I don't see why deer would be a bad thing once in a while but as a staple I would be skeptical.

no i wouldnt feed one deer meat all the time. i doubt i would feed it at all. i would probably just feed rodents and insects sometimes but i wont get a monitor for a while

I would think that rats and mice would be better since they need the whole foods for the calcium from the bones. Just my opinion though.

yea if i got a monitor rats and mice would definitley be its main food i was just curious about it, i dont think i would ever do it even if i had extra lol
