merry christmas savannah monitor [pics]
spent christmas at our friends, and since we breed rodents, if you know us, you get a bunch of mice and maybe a few geckos for christmas. we brought with us, a box of feeders, 2 breeding groups of swiss websters and tri-color mice, and 2 juvie crested geckos.

Nice, I hope you don't feed her live on a regular basis. Saying all the risks its just not worth it. I just got my sav to take whole pink rats, she took 4 last night and probably would take more today but I'm giving her a break. She will get rat other wise
Nice pics and I hope the sav enjoyed its dinner. Seems like everyone got feeding pics yesterday including me!!!

Ya, those mice looked scared. When my sav was smaller I fed her a live fuzzy mouse and she chased that thing like crazy, I never knew mice without there eyes open could run. Needless to say I killed the mouse so it didn't have to suffer anymore. I'm about to get a 1.2 trio of rats this week. Lucky me. Gotta try out breeding so I don't run out of my stock of fuzzies I still have left

its a full grown sav monitor eating large hopper mice. there are no risks. my mice are captive bred, and well maintained, none of them are sick or have parasites. and with as quick as he is, the mice dont have a chance to fight back, not that they would do any damage if they did. a monitor is not a snake. tho he will eat dead, there is no reason to kill them first. im sure he enjoys the chase. i also feed live to my geckos and to turtles, and to bearded dragons, and to anything that will take pinks, they get them live [including my smaller snakes]. i kill weaned mice for my snakes or feed unweaned rat pups [live]. we have about 12 breeding groups at any givin time. anywhere between 1.2 to 1.4 for rats, and like 1.4 to 1.8 for mice. half my mice are swiss websters, the other half are tri-colors or hypos. my rats are rex and hairless. i once produced 52 pinks from 3 moms.
oh, and a tip for rats, youngsters will grow like 3 times as fast if you offer greens in addition to their regular diet. just heads of lettuce go over very well. rats also love peanut butter, its rat crack.
