Ok, I want an ackie
Alright guys, the more I see and hear about monitor lizards--the more I want one.
I have an empty 75g, and I hear this should be perfect for an ackie.
Could anyone link me to some excellent care sheets and some breeders that I could make a purchase from?
Any tips or information is appreciated
Thanks!

I don't have 1 (yet)but I hear alot of good things about them and since I've been considering getting my son 1 I've been researching them too and this is what most people on this site reccomend to visit as a source of good care info.

Pro Exotics is definitely known as the place to go for ackies- even if they're sold out, Robyn is very knowledgeable and very willing to talk to you about setups, care, whatever. He could also probably direct you to other breeders.

ya they know what their talking about at Pro Exotics.. but no one persone knows everything.. your best bet is the check out the monitor fourms on Kingsnake.com ....
I have had my ackie for awhile now, he is geting bigger.. very cool to keep, but also one of the most difficult reptiles to keep are monitors, so keep that in mind. Also many people call them the best first monitor, and you could say they are... but... they are still monitors and will act like them. They dont get reallly big but are still very fast, very shy when young, and do not like to be handled, never get actually 'tame'.... Cant get used to you if you go the right way about it and you will never stop learning about them.... They dont bite much, but they can, and will. Mine has biten me a few times so far.... it doesnt hurt at all, but it will leave a little scratch and can draw blood.
They need alot of heat, as you will read in any good caresheet and need to stay humid or they can loose toes/nails. They get very active when warmed up, and need alot of room to be happy cause they like to dig. And they will and to be happy have to be able to burrow. Right now i have a dirt/sand mix, and if you keep it moist.. it holds a burrow well. They eat lots of crickets, and you have to dust the crickets with Rep-cal with D3. and a multivitamin....

Thanks chris, I appreciate the information a lot (and will probably have more questions in the future if you don't mind).
What size is your tank? Is a standard 75g good?
