Need tips on picking up & holding a monitor that is afraid of humans
I was hoping I could get tips from you on picking up and holding a 7 mo. old, 21 inch monitor that is afraid of humans (was abused). It growls and would bite if I don't hold its head. I am planning on letting it adjust to its new home for a month or so once I get it (from a rescue). But I will need to pick it up anyways to clean its cage and soak it in water, as well as hold it eventually.
Thank You,
Erica

I'll give you some advice. Force holding your monitor is only going to make even more afraid of humans and you. The best thing to do is let it get used to you by just cleaning it's cage and giving it food. Over time, it will adjust and hopefully, become accustom to you.
Monitors aren't cats or dogs that you can hold and pet. They freak out when humans touch them. Also, you shouldn't have to soak him if your humidity's right and you provide a large enough dish so it can soak it's body in on it's own.
I'll give you a secenario:
Say you want to get a wild squirrel to like and such. Your not going to grab while it writhes and bites at you, your going to give it food until each day, it comes closer and closer. Eventually, the squirrel will trust you enough to come close enough to maybe allow you to touch it. Same way with monitors.
BTW, what kinda monitor is it?

Its a savannah. I gave her the exact same advice as you Itachi, and its the best advice as far as monitors go. I would take it, and you'll see, as long as you have patience, that it will work. Good luck!

Sorry for not saying, it's a Savannah Monitor. I'll take both of your advice. Thank You.
