Yeah she was trying to get under the bushes then under the guys van next door. She is really nice once out of the cage. When she is in her cage she will false charge you with mouth open and whip you. Once you grab her she calms down and will sit on your lap and relax. She was evil I thought but I guess I was just afraid of that mouth. I figured that if I let her scare me she would just keep doing it. So while she is still small I should just start calming her down so I don't have a hugh monster.

You know, something in my jaded herper heart breaks a little every time I see a big lizard on a leash. =) I never felt the need to drag my monitors outside, but when I used to take my green ig out for some sun, we'd always go bareback. I'm sure this was unsafe and irresponsible, and yeah, an adult green ig can run really fast on two legs when they invariably see a plane or a bird and flip out, but my take was (and is) that if you want a pet that walks around on a leash, the pound is full of them.
Yeah, I know...I'm no fun at all.

What is more expensive in the long run, iguannas, tegus, or monitors? And what is the cheapest?

Retail, iguanas are cheapest. In the long run, all are ridiculously expensive.
Great criteria for selecting a species, btw. I know this is how I picked out every herp I've ever kept. Ideally the order goes, Is it cheap?/Will it scare my neighbors and impress my bros?/ then back to 'Is it cheap'? If the answer to all three is yes, you're well on your way to becoming a Herper Heavyweight.

I know the leash thing upsets people but I would rather have my monitor going back inside the house with me than running away. If I really feel the need to walk something I have a 7yr Rottie out back. She loves to go for walks.
I always look at it as if you have to worry about how much money it is going to tkae care of something then you really don't need it. If your looking for something cheap monitors are not the way to go.
