I'm surprised you didn't come across something about this in your readings before you bought. But here's a link: Monitor Care
Hope it helps.

Niles are not a lizard to be taken lightly. They are very large, powerful and AGGRESSIVE! I still have scars from the teeth , claws and tail! Definately not a beginner lizard or beginner monitor for that matter. They can be very difficult to restrain and will fight hard. I had a 4 footer that I had to clean all the blood off the cage after each feeding. What a monster.

Ya, BW. I know absolutely nothing about Monitors and spent a few minutes searching and all the sites I found did mention that Nile Monitors have a tendency to be a bit "frisky". But I didn't want to assume that Reaper was totally uneducated, as I'm sure isn't the case.
On another note----
HEY EVERYONE, BW POSTED IN A DIFFERENT FORUM!!!!
Wow, twice in as many months.

Im very lucky to get a placid one. He was normal the first day [whipping, biting, etc.].then after a week i got him or her out and they at first were norm and after a week of handling calmed down. It may just be a baby thing but im praying. I am just asking if im doing it right.

Sounds good reaper.
My nile has been with me for only a couple of weeks almost and he has only shown me his tail whip a few times now. I feel the reason for that is due to the little dog we are sitting for some woman is annoying him when i have my back turned. I placed a pinkie in my hand just to find out what the bite of a baby nile felt like. Pretty impressive i thought. I can see why people complain if they get bitten by a potential large one.
One question to you #3reaper... What size is your nile? Nose-tip tail

You can luck out and get a calm one. The nile I have is very pleasant, but I have him in a super large cage where he doesnt feel trapped(not that would be the reason). However I might suggest a savannah for a start, they get 4 to 6 foot and still pack a hard bite but are far much easier to tame. But watch out for the stinkers
