Sav Habitat Heating ideas PLEASE

My husband is building me Sav a habitat (it is not a cage at all heheheh). It will be 8ftx4ftx4ft. Hardi plank interior wall, insulated, and sheet rocked outer wall. Any ideas how to get this big sucker heated?

I know I have said it before but I love my radient heat panels. I use a radient panel to heat a 12x12 foot room. http://www.pro-products.com/proheat.html

Hugs and Hissessss,

got to lowes and get 45-50 watt outdoor halogen floodlights.make sure the basking area is 130F(surface temp) and the length of the lizards SVL.a temp gun is the best way to check these temperatures.if you do not have one go to SEARS and ask someone in the automotive dept for an infrared thermometer.the cheapest are bout $50 with a 1:6 ratio.the $80 ones have a 1:8 ratio.this means at 1ft distance you are reading an area of 8in in diameter.a temp gun is a must for owning monitors.even just one.the ambient temps should be in the mid 90s on the hot side.no less than 75F on the cool end.
build up platforms to decrease the space between lights and basking spot.
i use these for my argus monitor and it has grown fast and can eat and dig like a hungry backhoe.
hope this helps.

redrott has a little shameless behaviour in the past
you can use a 250 watt heat lamp like you buy at walmart. I have a 6x3x3 cage I was keeping a sav in and the 250 watt lamp by it self mounted on one end of the enclosure kept it way hot enough. That was in a 68 degree basement also.

Having used both halogen floods and the big 250 watt heat bulbs in an 8x4 cage, I'd say definitely go with the halogens. The thing with monitors is providing a steep thermal gradient so it can get in or out of the heat as needed. One of those giant heat lamps is just going to end up heating the whole cage. Not to mention those huge wattage bulbs will knock your electric bill up into the stratosphere.
