I was just trying to persuade my royal to eat, and I admit I was kinda poking it.
Its light was off and it was in its log. Then suddenly it hissed at me! At first I thought it was something else, but then it hissed again! After the that I left it alone. But I didn't think royals hissed!!! Hey RR it's nothing to worry about all snake's and lizard's can hiss!! Mainly they do it to call your bluff!! In trying to persuade him to eat instead of poking him rub the rodent up and down his side's this usally provoke's them to strike!!

Never had my royal hiss at me yet. I've had it for about a little over a month now and haven't had it hiss or strike at me. It was probably a defensive hiss maybe telling you to get the rodent out of it's cage. I only had a few defensive strikes yet while trying to feed mine.

The Day I went to pick up my new Ball python, he hissed at me then he snapped, scared the crap out of me? but since then its been a few months my Ball python has been a real sweetheart! . I handle him all the time and i think he's pretty tame. Actually i think he really enjoys chilling out with me while i'm surfing the net, watching TV and stuff. The only time he doesn't like to be touched is after he eats, I learned that the hard way so i use a snake hook to put him back in his terrarium. Its only a warning I think but if you keep agrevating him he might snap. Usually its a bluff though.

My Tegu "huffs" all the time, when I first got her I know she was not bluffing! she has calmed down 2000% since then on account of all the handling. she still huffs when anyone comes near her cage, but once sh's out, she calms down, I can even get her on her leash pretty easily. -Juggalo

I probaly shouldn't have pested it, but does anyone know how to get it to eat? I know royals are known for fasting for long periods of time, but i'd feel better if it ate something.
I am trying to feed it on fuzzies, it hasn't eaten since I got it.It been drinking water and had a good shed, so it's very healthy anyway.
But does anyone have any suggestions or tips on feeding BPs.

There is a really good book i just picked up called The Ball Python Manual "a comprehensive manual by experts" I picked it up at petsmart for $9 bucks,It only has about 75 pages, alot of info on feeding and enticing you python to feed on prey ect... I know there is alot of info on the subject via the internet and awsome forums like this , but its still nice to have a book full of info for reference and stuff. Alot of info on health issues and treatments ect...
You could probraly find it online for cheaper unless you have a petsmart right next door to ya?
Lots of nice pics too!

When I first got my BP he would hiss at me everytime I got him out of his cage, but never struck. I believe this may have been b/c he was w/c, but not sure. I never knew his origins, so that was just a guess. I got used to it and never paid much attention to it after that.
