Last night I was sitting in my easy chair with my laptop cruising the web. I was on this forum as a matter of fact Anyway my recliner is about 2 feet from the large table where her tank is. Shie is about 4 feet long and i have her in a 55gal tank right now.I'm moving here to a new enclosure tomorrow, casue she has outgrown this one. Now I fed her Tuesday. So it was dark in there except the light from my laptop. I was just absently tapping on the table near the glass. When I looked i noticed she was only a few inches from the glass. Then she just struck the glass FAST! Scared the crap out of me! I about jumped out of my chair. She has never struck the glass before. I think it was dark and she sensed the heat from my hand through the glass. How well can they see? She has always been super sweet and tame. Anyway is this normal? Oh yeah I won't be sitting there again

Its not unusual at all. They don't have particularly good vision, but they can see decently enough. The main thing is that they see movement very well... and if you were sitting in one spot, wiggling your hands typing, it probably looked very tasty. =) Nothing to be worried about though, just make sure she didn't hurt herself. I've had my burms dislocate their jaw hitting the glass sometimes, and it takes a few days for them to get it back into place properly. =)

Tapping on the table didn't help either. Although whether they can detect airborne sounds is a topic of debate, they sure as heck can pick up vibrations, which your tapping hand was sending out hot and heavy. I'm sure to you Burm your tapping, heat giving off hand probably registered as "possible tasty treat"

hehehe, just wait 'til she's a big girl. You think she scared you now - lol
Murray did that once at my dog, scared all of us. The dog absolutly hates him now and tries to pounce on him through the cage. lol
Glad she didn't hurt herself, hope you didn't when you flinched. I know I would have

My big male, hovering around 12', has done that a few times. One of my dogs will walk by and get his attention and -bang- instant headache. He's not too bright. =)
