thats what I was always under the impression of.
we have no idea if the carpets in the US are pure mcdowelli, if thats the case, ive never seen one that big. females... 7-8 ft tops.
the size seems more like variegata,metcalfi,etc...

I do know I've seen some supposedly pure chenyei and they are easily twice the size of my adults or any others that I have seen withouth a "pedigree". While the color isn't a whole lot different, the size is a big difference which leads me to believe the species we commonly know as jungle carpets are probably actually just exceptional variegata or some variant of mutt therein.

I would has it as a guess that the majority of carpets exported
from Oz would have been mcdowelli simply because of availibilty
and ease of collection. They are common on the eastern seaboard
in urban areas.
They are also by far the most commonly kept carpet in Australia.
P.S. refering to variegata as a 'queensland carpet' is way off the
mark as they don't occur in this state.

My guess is that most of the exports we've seen in the US for the last couple of decades have come from Irian Jaya and the islands, the original AU bloodlines are few and far between.

Sorry Ed no can do!,. It goes against my principles, not as a 'law
abiding citizen', I've never been accused of such a thing, but as a
conservationist.!
