it ain't the enquirer so----I would say yes. Although I'm not sure that the villager's statements count for much---I'm sure we will see in the longrun how much is true--

Don't count that as being any verification of the truth
When a story goes on the 'wire' it goes to EVERY news source and it is up to them to run the story, whether factual, non factual etc with no investigation into its' truthfulness done at any point in time by the news groups that run it.

OK years ago around early 1900's I believe, the U.S. Government put a bounty of $50,000 on any wild caught snake 30 feet or bigger. As as far as I know this has never been claimed. I'm sure someone on the site besides me knows something about this maybe Jules or Eddie can shed some more light on the subject. If not I'll look around and see if I can find the exact article I read this from.

one more detail. it has to be live, as dead snakes / skins can be stretched. as far as i know the award is still up and has rissen and still is.

Funny... my Program Manager actually just sent me this link. (probably because the only picture in my office is of my RTB).
Anyway, it's basically the same article, but has a picture of the snake and its "trainer". If you click on 'enlarge photo' there's a caption. Judging from this photo, there's no way the python is any where near 49 feet.

ya, i agree. they would have to get better pics id say, to prove the fact, maybe perhaps marking the floor by feet, just to get an idea. although there is no way of completly stretching the snake to properly tell, it would still help to verify the fact, i say.

I've seen pics of the snake and if its 25' I'd be surprised. Somebody better buy a new tape measure. Granted its no small snake but come on.

I used snakemeasurer, and assuming the guy in the yellow is the same or close to the size as I am (5'9"/160lbs), the viewable part of the snake is somewhere in the range of 34 foot. What are the chances that the non-viewable portion is another 15 foot?

Holy smoke! I don't know how big it is, but it just reinforces my belief that I should never own a large snake. What the heck do you do with a snake that big?
