Why I Love Blood & Short-Tailed Pythons (dialup warning!
Some of my kiddos:
Het Albino Male...since my blood python addiction started when Tracy Barker first showed me a Red Albino blood a few years ago, I'm really excited to see this project come full circle someday:
My favorite red female from this year...I can't wait to see what she looks like a year from now:
New pics of the weird male...I'd love to see this pattern on a red albino!
Here's something a little different: all of these bloods are siblings. Out of 6, there are 4 of the light colored animals & 2 darker ones. Don't know what - if anything - it will turn out to be, but so far they've been a lot of fun to work with!
Sarawak short-tail male
Sarawak short-tail female
Killer Borneo graciously on loan to me from Anthony Caponetto
And a few new darlings I just got this week:
New female #1
New female #2
New female #3
New male
Enjoy!

WOW now those are some pretty snakes....
personally I don't like the look of Ball pythons that much...but bloods really get me going. Natural or morphs of any blood in my opinion are beautiful animals...only thing I can think of that looks better in my opinion are boas

Nope...those are all mine...being at NERD has put me in the right place at the right time to acquire some cool bloods. Believe me - I'm thankful for every minute of it! Bloods have become my MAJOR fixation - I have around 40 at home right now, including some cool stuff I haven't photographed yet, so keep an eye out! I LOVE THESE SNAKES!!!!!!!

I know the feeling Kara! We just adopted a male Borneo from jpaulson. I just need to find a female for him when we are more financially stable If you have a minute, take a look at him and tell me what you think: FRED Would you be willing to help me find a female when we are ready?

Although I really like bloods and short-tails, I tend to think they are too fat to not have any legs. Sometimes I end up looking for legs on them. You have some beautiful snakes there. I've been planning on getting a Borneo Short-Tailed for quite some time. When starting out with Bloods and Short-Tails, what do you think is the better species to start out with? Also, what is it that makes a Short-Tailed a Short-Tailed and not a Blood, or vice versa? They all seem to have pretty much the same features and care.

I think Fred has a very sweet face! I love his cocoa & caramel coloration - he is quite the handsome Borneo! Let me know when you're ready for a girlfriend for him - I have one with a matching stripe that would compliment him perfectly.

Bry,
I typically recommend Borneos, since they seem to tame easier and faster than their fiery brongersmai counterparts. If you're familiar with the herpetoculture for medium-to-large constrictors & have successfuly kept snakes like large boas or Burms, and don't mind dealing with a snappy juvenile, then there's no reason not to get a red blood if you prefer them to the short-tailed pythons.
If you're interested in a Borneo, just make sure you go with a nice CB baby...WC animals don't tend to do well, especially after being shipped long distance. Even farm raised babies have a tendency to break down quickly with a little stress and aren't as forgiving of husbandry errors as a nice, established CB animal will most likely be.
As far as the differences between bloods & short-tailed pythons go, I'd recommend reading the following paper that broke the Python curtus complex into individual species status.
http://www.anu.edu.au/BoZo/Scott/PDF...l.P.curtus.pdf
Don't hesitate to let me know if I can clarify anything for you!

Yeah, I've read that Borneos are better to start off with, so I am looking into starting with a Borneo. I'm also a 15 minute drive from Pro Exotics, and I've been planning on getting a CB Borneo from them, if they have them that is. I know they work with Bloods, but I'm not sure if they work with Borneos. Would you have any idea if they breed Borneos as well?

I think they might - it just depends on what they have available from time to time. Robyn is great to deal with @ PE - one of my favorite people in this industry. If you have trouble finding any, just let me know! I have some babies right now that are MONSTER feeders & very gentle.

Thanks Kara! How much do I need to set aside for her when the time arises? You can PM me with that info.
