Anything such as a Dwarf Burm?
OK scanning around a few different sites today and I came across the word's Dwarf Burm a couple times. And from what I've read some reptile shows have even had some for sale. From what I've read also that have a little bit different appearance than a regular Burm. Anyone care to elaborate on the subjuct? And if there is such an animal and you know of pics they would be nice also.

Burms are the largest of the Indian rock python subspecies...possibly one of the others...there is no such thing as a dwarf burm that I know of except for underfed ones.....I don't think there is any such thing as a dwarf retic either...just a certain locale that because of natural diet, stay a bit smaller in the wild but if fed the same as other retics seem to be getting just as large in captivity as any other...Sounds like petstore propeganda to get people to unwittingly purchase potentially giant snakes. Shrug

hahaha you said credibility and Bob Clark in the same sentence...HAHAHAHA
Green dwarf burm? I'd just be thrilled to see a healthy green burm live past 5-6 years. Poor snakes are dropping like flies from poor genetics as it is...I don't think malnurishing them would be doing them any favors.

I dont doubt that somewhere someone discovered a race of burms that achieved an overall smaller average size than a typical one would. But even a "dwarf" burm in theory could be a large snake (IMHO, a 6-10 foot snake is still pretty darn big).
I myself am skeptical of the dwarf retics out there, I knew of one guy who purchased one from the aformentioned "credible" source (I wont say which) and the snake ended getting to nearly 15 feet in 3 years. but there is a race of retics from a small island that lacks large mammilian prey , and through the many thousands of years of snake evolution on that particular island, the snakes that ended up there didnt need to be large to capture their target prey items, so eventually they got smaller, just like some rattlesnakes develop without rattles, or dont rattle at all when threatened.
so I dont doubt the existance of either a dwarf race of burms, or a genetically deficient form that doesnt attain normal burm sizes.

I feel through selective breeding you can create Dwarfs yes. But I have YET to see one in REAL life. Ads mean nothing........

Island species of many animals stay smaller due to local prey...in the wild...and may even show some leaning towards smaller sizes even in captivity despite what they are fed...but usually not by much and sizes vary even on the mainlands anyway and like frag...I've been seeing these "dwarf retics" get pretty large despite their "genetics"...I feel strongly that if you feed them, they will grow. I think it's all a mind set. It's a "dwarf" feed it small and keep it small. I have a burm who spent many of his first months loose in a petstore. He was hatchiling size when found by me behind some junk ironically on a clearance rack... badly malnourished and dehydrated...I think his growth was stunted. He barely grew at all for the following year and then finally started a growth spurt. Now he is about 3 years old and only 7 feet. Maybe he's a dwarf? and yes...I got him at clearance price lol
