HI my brother bought a Burmese 2 days ago. I know they get BIG. How fast do they get big though? My Uncle had one that reached 14ft in about 3 years. Is this normal? Also when does their growth rate slow down? Thanks for any help.

They grow really fast! 14' in 3 years doesn't sound too unusual -- I know 8' in 2 years is pretty normal. And anyway if it reaches 14' in 3 years or 5, you still eventually have a 14' snake -- which may very well not be through growing. Did your brother know what he was getting into? I'm a little confused by your post, don't know your situation so I'll leave it to others to deliver the "homework before you buy it!" rant. Welcome to rtb. People here basically have good hearts and will try to help you, but may come off as kinda prickly at first, because a handful of them have had to help place a few too many Burms that people decided they didn't want anymore once they got huge.

Tell us more about your brother & this snake, OK?

Wow, three answers in two different postings...
Ya got some answers in THIS POST
earlier today. Not to rag on ya too much, but there are a lot of double posts asking the same questions in two or more sections from the same person all over the place. Let's keep it down to one post on a question, ok?
Any ways, Welcome to Redtail !

The admins and moderators here have got more than both their hands full at times here, especially recently with nearing 2000 members. Read this POSTING and it may help you see what I am saying about the doubles...

I had a friend that got his female up to 9' in 18 months.
It was 13' after another 6 months.

It all depends on how warm you keep them, and how much and how frequently they are fed.

Genetics and gender will play a role in growth rate and adult size, too. Murray is 4 years old and only 8 ft long, but he is a boy. The females get much larger than that. I always figured that if you want a burm as a pet, males would be better because for the most part, they tend to stay a bit smaller than females.
As far as the rant, I won't go there, please feel free to ask any question necessary for the health and safety of the burm and your family.
I am somewhat partial to burms, I have three. Just please remember that this is a wild animal that will get huge and dangerous. They tend to be very expensive to house and feed. Please keep in touch and we will help you out as best we can.
BTW, what is the burm's name?
and Welcome to RTB!!!!!!!!!
