Not at all. Any animal with neurological disorders is defective.

Exactly! Why?

Why produce any animal? There are irresponsible keepers out there.

It has been my experience that most reptile keepers are GREAT people! However, if 100% of the keepers were irresponsible, in the same manner that 100% of spider balls have neurological disorders, it would be a disservice to the animals knowing that they were all going to irresponsible keepers.

I can answer your question as to why I would want to produce an animal with one photo.

I could not agree more. There is nothing more awe inspiring than a perfectly normal, neurological disorder free, snake emerging from an egg.

Hmmm.....You cannot tell from that photo that the snake poking it's head out is "perfectly normal" or has issues. .....Seems like a bit of an assumption (just like spiders have a poor quality of life).

Re: Striped Spider
I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. I only hope that you are not purposely producing defective animals.

Re: Striped Spider
Good appetite and there appears to be no wobble when feeding.

Re: Striped Spider
To me the drive behind breeding any animal unless conservation based is to play God, to "see what you can make." I don't understand it myself. I wouldn't want to put the health of any of my pets at risk just to see what kind of babies they would make. I wouldn't want to bring more lives into the world when there are already plenty. I do agree that captive breeding is great for wild populations and there are plenty of great pet owners out there, but I wouldn't say all or even most are. I agree there are a lot of pretty morphs out there but I don't think they are worth the trial and error of deformed or neglected babies. I think breeding animals will just be one of those age-old debates. I will try not to say too much, but just throwing my opinion out there. And to the OP, yes it is a cute snake.

Good breeders put the animals first. It is impossible to be a good ethical breeder and then purposely produce defective animals.

So, basically you are saying it is impossible for me to be an ethical breeder...I have to disagree. All my animals are very well taken care of, healthy, and have a quality of life that is better than a lot of snakes that are bred in captivity I think(for one they aren't kept in tiny drawers in a rack). My spider is growing quickly and is very alert and has an amazing feeding response. She moves about like any snake and does not in any way appear to be hampered by her slight wobble. So her quality of life appears good to me(at least the same as my other snakes). Some day I will breed her. And since she has a good quality of life I don't think that's unethical.
