What is this?!?!
A friend of mine has a BP which he is not taking very good care of and he called me for help. This snake had this "sack" come out of it and I'm wondering if anyone can identify what it is or what may be happening. The snake is being very defensive and unfriendly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately my friend can't do that. I'm not real happy about the whole thing. He didn't have it warm enough or anything that he should've been doing. Is there anything that can be done without a vet?

Re: What is this?!?!
yes you need to take it to the vet now, get a tub and put alittle water in it so the prolapse does not dry out...a prolapse is part of the bowel.

Re: What is this?!?!
one of my books say you can put the snake in a tub put a shallow amount of clean water in it just enough to keep the tub floor and the prolapsed tissue wet make a thick paste of powdered or granular sugar and water apply this paste directly to the swollen tissue

Thank you. I told him that there was a serious problem. i have not seen the snake personally. The body is also swollen and he swears it's pregnant. What a Maroon! I will go there persoanlly and try to do the recommended things and hopefully nurse it back to health. It's been a while since I've been bitten by anything anyway! LOL

Just wondering for my own knowledge, what does the paste do?

Re: What is this?!?!
the paste will help draw moisture from the tissue and reduce the swelling

With any luck, supposed to shrink the tissues so they can go back to where they need to be... but IMO the snake is in serious condition, prolapse will likely recur under his 'care', etc...

if he cant afford to take it to the vet then PLEASE try to talk him onto dropping it off at one. Walk in, put it on the counter, walk out.
Shoot, or like in the cartoons....
Place it at the door, IN A BOX FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, knock on the vets office door, and run.
The bottom line is the thing NEEDS to go to the vet. Or it will live out its remaining days in pain and misery!

Re: What is this?!?!
Yeah... that's really serious.. I'm pretty sure the only way to fix it is with surgery. And it sounds like paying for that may not be an option... For the snake's sake, it really needs to be taken to a vet.. even if you do just leave it (in a box) knock on the door and run... I'm sorry to hear about this, and I hope everything works out for the poor thing...
