Must be nice to have the extra $, space, time and spouse/significant other to agree to just take in another pet on a moments notice.
I say hats off to you amaurer2 for doing what you could, very commendable & heart warming to know that there are still people like yourself out there. So many people are heartless and would of just killed it saying "its only a snake" why waste the time & money.

Re: What is this?!?!
yea.... I know Ryan has enough of a fit when I am GIVEN rescues. even if I had THAT much extra money to help every snake i see that's sick, I guarantee he wouldn't let me. our snakes, yea, I'll sacrifice somethig I want or wanna do to take my animals to the vet THAT DAY, which I have any time anything has been wrong... RI in the burm, necropsies, medicine for whatever... yea I've spent some good money at vets on my animals living or passed on, but those are my animals and my responsibility. if you can't take responsibility of YOUR animals you don't need to have them. that's what it boils down to. I know there are plenty of us who would try to help, but for what? what if the irresponsible person wants there animal back after YOU front the money? are you going to take them to court? court is expensive. animal custody can be just as expensive as child custody on court. I doubt many of us have THAT much money to get the animal fixed up and then potentially fight the owner for custody as well

I shall be single, So yes I do what I want, when I want.
As far as extra money, Unlike some people I would rather Starve myself to help my snakes, even if I have to rescue one.

i love how the excuses come out after a valid point has been made. if you truly wanted to see this snake helped then you would have done something. let it be. the end.

Yeah, don't you also live in your parents' house? Not all of us have that luxury.
I think a sick snake is a sick snake, no matter where or whose it is. We've even been known to take up collections around here. If you want to help and you have the money to help, make an offer. Otherwise, how dare you judge someone else! Sorry for the rant, but this stuff really ticks me off. Obviously, the OP is really torn up about his friend's snake. He did what he could to help, which is more than what a lot of people would have done. Personally, I also would not have had the money to rescue the snake. I would have encouraged the friend to drop it off at the vet's too, probably to be euthanized. I get approached all the time by friends of friends who have sick snakes or snakes to get rid of. Do you think that obligates me to take them all in and go into credit card debt to help them? Some of us have mortgages, or families, or both, and don't have unlimited funds for snake rescue.

Re: What is this?!?!
Wow. Really? I mean, the 2 RTB's, 1 BP, 1 Leopard Gecko, 1 Bearded Dragon, 2 ferrets and the dog that I have are doing great! I spend LOTS of money to make sure that my pets are taken care of not to mention working full time, going to college full time and volunteering and the shows to help educate people about the responsibilities of owning herps. Allow me to make this perfectly clear. I am NOT responsible for the decisions of others. You wanna adopt the snake? Here's the address of the vet and you can contact them and make arangements.
Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital

Thanks for all of the well informed feedback and responses. I really depend on you guys for help when I'm at a loss.

Irrelevant now, but still.

It was a 24 hour animal hospital. Yes, it is an emergency center but they're open 24 hours a day.

Re: What is this?!?!
I can't believe that you people, and you know who you are, are so arrogant to think that everyone just has the funds, time and space to take in every poor animal they hear about. He got it to a vet even though it was in no way his responsibility and could have very well cost himself a friendship to help the poor thing. That was above and beyond the call of duty set forth by society and I applaud the OP for trying to make a difference.
And for all those saying that they always take in every animal that is abused, starved, neglected, in need of medical care etc, etc, etc I call SHENANIGANS. If that's the case then there would be no need of humane societies and rescues in your area because you so obviously are taking in every animal that is in need and are apparently employing a round the clock veterinarian for their vet care that you stated you would provide to all rescues that need it. And not to mention that you would be far too busy with all your rescues to maliciously post on this forum.
It's people like you that ruin forums like this. If we can help educate even one ignorant owner, or help one beginner keeper with a care/health problem then we have made a difference. However, if you continue to belittle people for their ignorance or accuse them of abuse/neglect or stupidity when there are obviously extenuating circumstances then we will no longer have a wonderful forum for the sharing of our knowledge and love of reptiles.
So I salute those of you who apparently have no lives, spend all day trolling this forum and bashing everyone that does not meet your standards of moral and herpetological excellence. Thank you for ruining this forum for many present and future reptile keepers. Thank you for contributing to the ruin of this wonderful hobby.

Yes, I haven't seen any of these self-proclaimed saints actually starving themselves to take in any sick snakes.

Re: What is this?!?!
Wow, Look at all of you who may have Judge me Harshly.
I bet none of you even know what Kindness is anymore.
We're all in Such a rush to get things done right now that we can't take a few minutes to help out one another for that simple reason.
No wonder why we have all these new laws and bans being pushed down our throats
All this negative ATTITUDE towards me, What good is it doing, nothing, I would almost be willing to bet that no one else called to see about that poor Ball python.
It is such a shame with type of morality.
At least I took the time and tried to pay and help out one snake, Even if it was a Ball Python.
So go ahead and make fun of me and get all bent out of shape, your not hurting me, just yourselves.
Peace.

Re: What is this?!?!
Awful lot of venom going on here, for IMO no good reason. Aaron did the best he could, covering an irresponsible friends mistakes. I don't really think some of the alternative comments were intended as bashing?....hindsight is 20/20 anyway? Since we are all snake-lovers on here, I think some comments were just airing frustration.....But I am friends with a vet and it's no picnic for them to absorb everyones dumped animals either!...this economy is hurting EVERYONE! Name-calling & finger pointing on here are not helpful, as already mentioned. Someone please pass the chill-pills....
