I recently picked up a CB'02 male childrens python. These are really cool little snakes. Almost as mellow as a BP (well, until feeding time at least then he snaps at everything)
Does anyone keep these? I had toyed with the idea of getting one thru KS but once I saw it in person that sealed the deal.
Gotta love the eyes on these snakes.

I have one and like you said it's docile as can be until feeding time.
They are great little snakes but do tend to be difficult to get started on food and established when they are very young.

I got a spotted python.. very close species
Well when she was little I would'nt of called her mellow but she sure did love that food.
She is very calm now btw

I think you will find most "childrens" you will come
across are actually spotted pythons.
Until 1986 spotted, stimson and childrens pythons
were all called childrens pythons (Liasis childrenii).
Since then have been divided into their own taxanomic groups.
The only way to really tell the difference between spotted
and childrens is in the pattern.Children's pythons in adulthood
have very little contrast in their pattern so much so they are
almost uniform in colour.
The animal in my pic is also a spotted (Antersia maculosa).

I went by the scales on the top of the head and it appears to be a true childrens.
Does this pic help at all? I can take more.

I don't trust those head scale counts Steve.
I've seen numerous spotted, stimsons and childrens with various combinations
of the above. I'll be interested in how he/she looks ina few years.
Nonetheless they are all great little snakes and you won't regret getting it for a minute.
John, maybe we can get Leo & Cleetus together in a couple of years
to bump ventricals .? j/k
