My male ball python has a dent in one of his eyes,i am not sure what caused this but i am thinking dehydration but i am a lil confused because i took his water bowl out last night, cleaned them and let um dry overnight but i dont think that would cause dehydration.

Its not so much dehydration as it is to low a humidity.
It usually goes away if you moisten the whole cage up a bit.

One night won't do it unless the heat is a little high and the humids way low.

Raise the humids with several mistings and keep the water in, on the hot side to help with humids and it should pop back out in a day or two. If not, then at least in the next shed or two as long as the humids stay consistant.

Retained eyecaps are more likely to have a crackled or fogged look than denting. Even if it wasn't retained, the skin over the eye can get a crackled look....

Dented eyecaps are from low humidity as the others said. For a 'quick' fix some will wrap the snake's head up (with nose out) in a warm damp towel for a few minutes. It still doesn't beat raising the overall humidity, tho even if it takes a bit longer to notice the improvement.

I would definately recommend a moist hidebox, I ALWAYS provide a moist hide area for ballpythons, due to the fact that 90% of the wild collected ones are dug out of burrows where the humidity is nearly 100%.

I have found that a humid box is a must with the ball pythons that I have been around. Since adding a humid box I have not had a bad shed, retained eye cap, or dented eyes.

I tend to "over decorate" my cages so there are something like three or four different places that he can go and hide in the cage. He is still small only about 24" long and he is in a 20 Gallon tank. On the hot side there is the humid hide and a piece of cork bark, in the middle there is another piece of cork bark, then on the cool side is a water bowl and a rock hide. One of the bp's favorite places to hide in the cage is in the substrate under the clay saucer that makes up the bottom of the humid hide.
