Do Blood's keep more like Balls or more like Burms? I have no interest in getting one, but I see them quite frequently in the pet stores, and I'm quite curious as to how they keep. I'd have a tendency to think they either keep a lot like Balls or a lot like Burms. What do you think? More like Burms? More like Balls? Or am I totally off and they keep like something else entirely?

Chris, from the two you listed, I would have to go with BP's. They stay pretty much the same as far as housing, water, heat, etc., cept you need to keep the humidity up. They are prone to getting dehydrated and/or constipated. I keep a tote in the cage, over the floor heat, with moss and water. He spends half the time in there, the other half in the cool side. They also have extremely slow metabolisms, so they don't move much. I love em, though. Go to my album (pg 6)--I have a couple of pics of mine.

Thanks for the info and the pics, man
Is it just me, or are Black Blood's the prettiest? The odd coloration looks really cool IMO...

It's just you, Chris. Black bloods to me are not that attractive--looks like a big black slug. I prefer the sumatrans, or the borneos.

I like the black ones, too
Question: JP, is your blood lython too fat or is that how they get? It seems to me that they're kind of the basset hounds of snakes!
Also, how's their temperament?

Blood pythons are the thickest snake for the length out there in the herp world. They usually do not get more than 5 to 6 feet in total length, but their girth can be greater than a 15' burm. They are a very heavy bodied snake. As for their temperment, it is similar to that of a Ammie. Most all babies are nippy at first, but can be calmed down with handling--in most cases. Quite a few, though, will be aggressive as adults, giving them a notorious reputation for being mean.
So, no, vetstudent, he is not particularily fat---thats how they get. Really thick middle, small head, in comparison. They are one of the laziest snakes out there, so don't expect them to roam their cage and climb around. They just usually lay there, in the same spot, sometimes for days at a time.

Also, unlike Balls, and even my Boas, Bloods have a reputation for being trash compactors... They will eat almost any time it seems. My Boas won't eat if not hungry yet from thier last meals, Balls can be picky to start with, but won't eat non stop. So in the eating department, they are a lot like burms..
