building a cage for my bp..wanting to paint it??

im going to build a cage for my ball python..i was wondering if i can paint the inside of the cage(black) is it safe if i let it dry for a week or so outside so the fumes all go away? will it be safe for him once i get the heat lamp back in it and humidity? is there a pet safe paint or something..i dont want to harm him any suggestions would be greatyly appreciated.
(iv used stick on tiles b4 and they fell off i really dont like using them)
