Thank you. He is a Python brongersmai, not a Python breitensteini. Besides scale counting, the best way to tell the difference, in my opinion, is to examine the head. Vlad has a darker head where as a breitensteini specimens have more golden heads. Now since brongersmai bloods heads darken with age you can't use the head trick to tell the difference on young specimens, but it works quite well with older ones. In some cases it is tough to tell the difference between the 3 different species of Python curtus, brongersmai and breitensteini because of the variation involved. That is one of the reasons why I love "bloods" of all the three species is because of the variation between individuals. For example Vlad has a lot more yellow with a light red orange color. Where as the more sought over brongersmai display a deep red color with a nice orange to yellow blotches. Variation is the spice of life and a key to continued evolution.
To illustrate my point about variation check this picture out. This picture includes 4 Python Brongersmai all of which look a little different.

Okay, I have a word for those snakes: Plumptious (combination of plump and precious). Definitely applies.
