BP is on hunger strike...
So about 3 weeks ago I moved my bp into a 40 breeder (got an insane deal on one), but before I moved him he was kind of picky about eating...I gave him a week to settle in, temps have been consistent as has humidity..He doesnt want f/t like we were doing, I even left a rat in over night (f/t of course) and nothing...Tried a live mouse, still nothing not interested whatsoever....Weight has been consistent, hes maybe a year old, 962grams, shedding/pooping fine, not really lethargic or anything...Any advice? Keep offering every week or wait? THanks.

Re: BP is on hunger strike...
just be patient, 3 weeks isn't a hunger strike.
3 months maybe, 3 weeks no
just wait another week or two and try again.

Re: BP is on hunger strike...
I agree, go ahead and wait another week or two. Are there enough hides? I know in the past when I've moved ball pythons into larger tanks they can get a bit overwhelmed at first and seem to need a lot more hides to feel secure.
The other tip I can give you is to scent next time you offer food. Get a nice tub of soiled rodent bedding (use whichever rodent he's used to eating) and place it in the tank an hour or two before you plan on offering food. This has seriously worked wonders with a few of my pickier eaters.

Re: BP is on hunger strike...
I ended up moving him back into a 20L, he seems a lot better, hes exploring a lot as opposed to the 40 just stayed in one spot for days (I had plenty of hides)....

Re: BP is on hunger strike...
If he keeps fasting, try feeding a mouse (F/T)
there are many stories out there (including my own) where a BP happily feeding on rats will suddenly decide that rats are not food but mice are.
It's likely that the cage was too big for his taste though. Next time you move him try cluttering up the cage with tupperware, hides, fake plants, crumpled paper, etc. to make him feel more secure.

How big is he? BP's don't like large enclosures, they would rather be in a smaller enclosure. Also scenting the room with the rat before feeding might work as some mentioned. Temps should be 80-82 ambient and 90-92 basking spot, with humidity 50-60%. 3 weeks is not long, my male will go up to 4 months at a time only loosing about 100grams. As long as he isn't loosing weight he will be fine.

Chicken Broth
Has anyone ever actually had the "chicken broth" method work in this species? Ball pythons don't eat birds...the method was developed for bird eating snakes
