Re: Spotted python

Pretty cool little guys. Care is about the same as a Children's, but they get a bit bigger and keep their pattern better. A little squirrelly as babies but they are supposed to calm down pretty well with age and size.

Re: Spotted python

I have a children's and am actually buying a 1.1 pair of spotteds in the next couple days. A normal and a granite.

I like them - for tiny pythons they are absolutely, hands-down my favorite. Then again, I'm a huge python fan anyway.

But, they are fairly easy to maintain, but they can get aggressive without consistent handling. Feeding should absolutely be done in a separate enclosure, as these guys can develop an insane feeding response.

If you have any questions about them, feel free to ask me.

Re: Spotted python

I've got a trio of spotteds, a pair of stimsoni, a pair of perthensis and three childreni. Care for all four is the same. I've had my oldest spotted female for 14 years.

Spotteds are easy captives, they are very tolerant as far as temperature and humidity go, are enthusiastic feeders and are amenable to handling.

I've yet to meet any antaresia spp. that has any degree of aggression and I've been feeding in the cages on all for years.

I keep all my antaresias at 85 degrees on the hot end and about 78 on the cool. The hot spot is about 91 degrees and humidity is in the range of between 45 and 50%.

Spotteds are a bit nippy as babies, but quickly settle out of it as they age. Any feeding issues I've seen with young antaresia pythons on mainly due to keeping them in enclosures that are much to big. Until they get some size on them, they can be on the skittish side if not made to feel secure.

I've been keeping my adults in a Freedom Breeder rack. The drawers are roughly 27x33x8. I've found that once into adulthood, they are fairly active animals that enjoy some low branches and room to move about.

Once in awhile I will do a school/daycare visit with some of my animals. My older spotteds along with the Stimson's and my big male woma are the snakes that always do the best being held by people who are a little apprehensive of reptiles. They are just all around good pet snakes.

Re: Spotted python

I am with skiploder, I always feed my Children's and spotted in their cages, and never had an aggressive feeding response as a result. In fact, there is nothing aggressive about either of them! Very, very nice snakes!
