Quite a moment...

So some of you know that one of my four Bloods has an open sore on her head that is currently being treated and improving. She is only a few months old and is quite small. To make matters worse she has refused every meal offered to her for the last 5 weeks and has lost quite a bit of weight. So last night I decided that today I would assist her in eating. So, I defrosted 3 rat fuzzies, grabbed a Qtip, removed her from her cage, gently opened her mouth and placed the head of the rat fuzzy in her mouth. She immediately took the rat and I followed it up with two more placing the head of the next rat in her mouth as the bum of the previous rat was disappearing down her throat. She took all three, but the cutest thing was that she took it all while she layed in my hands using my hand for leverage while she swallowed. My little Ophion is so gentle. It was really a cool moment. Here is an after pic of her nice and full in her cage with her nose dosed with silvadene.

Hey congrats on the feeding success, sounds like that had to be a cool experience- eating while you held her. thanks for sharing.

congrats man! it always sux when they wont eat. i bet now that she has tasted those fuzzies she will be eating on her own in just one or two more assisst feeding sessions.

It was really so nice. My wife and I have been so worried about her so as soon as she ate I called my wife and both of us were so happy. Yeah, that is the idea, I just have to be patient. Thanks for both your nice comments.

i got a BP from a friend of mine once that only had half its bottom lip. it refused food and was very young. i had to assisst feed it once a week. after about 5 weeks it starting eating on its own. sadly tho after 2 successful feeding on her own she refused food. i had to froce feed her (not assisst) but she would regurge anything given. i took her to my vet and he even tried, but his attemps were unsuccessful as well. she ended up dieing.

That's so nice that she ate for you, that must be a relief! Good luck on her eating on her own now.

I am sorry to hear that. Sometimes it is just out of our hands. Hopefully that is not the case here.
