Re: Thinking of getting a carpet python
1. IJ's tend to have a little better attitude
2. IJ's usually get between 5 and 6 feet, and jungles between 6 and 7 feet (these are average sizes, some can get huge, others are tiny)
3. I like using 4x2x2, but a 4x18"x2 would be fine
4. you decide...I like and keep them both

Re: Thinking of getting a carpet python
I tend to like any of the Carpets but here is a JCP I had a few years ago and sold to a guy on another forum.

Re: Thinking of getting a carpet python
Very nice example of a JCP Shadrach.
To answer your questions:
1. From the one's I've worked with about the same. Both tend to be nippy (as all carpets are) as babies. Two of my jungles have never struck at me or tried to bite, both are sub-adults now. Neither has my juvenile IJ. My adult IJ that I got from a pet store has always had a grumpy attitude. My pair of juvenile JCPs are still nippy and agressive at times, but mainly because I haven't held them as much. IMO both localities will tame down and be relatively calm if you're willing to take a few nips for a few months. Don't worry you hardly feel it.
2. Both stay around the same size, IJ being smaller. A 7 foot jungle is on the huge size, but they can get that big. Also a 6 foot IJ is a huge specimen, but again they can reach that size.
3. Yup a 4x2x2 is great. A Vision 422 (48"x24"x18") is also plenty of room. Even a Vision 322 (36"x24"x18") would work, but not recommend if you only have a few snakes.
4. I like and have both. If I had to get another I would choose an IJ because I only have one female.
Here's a good example of a light phase IJ that I got from Reptilicus ( http://www.spectacularcarpetpythons.com/). Forgive the shameful plug again, but I love this snake and Will and Mary are great people.

Re: Thinking of getting a carpet python
I prefer cypress mulch. It's cheap and readily available. Plus it looks natural. I keep my humidity pretty low compared to other people, but I live in FL so it kinda works out. My humidity ranges from 40-70% (or 80% at times). I almost never mist or soak my cages. I don't recall ever having a bad shed from any of my carpets.

Re: Thinking of getting a carpet python
I've never had one but from what I've read they can be nippy.
In my opinion you should have some experience with snakes before owning one.

carpets make great first snakes...they're easy to care for, not too big, and are a great alternative to the usual ball pythons, cornsnakes, and BCI's. myfirst was a carpet python
