Woma Python Handling
As you all know I have a pair of yearling woma's. They show no aggression in handling but everytime I get them out I get tagged .. why you ask ... its all feeding responses which IMO is a good thing. I can tell its feeding responces because they crawl around and then with one wierd movement by myself they bite and wrap and hold on for a few minuites. By wierd movement I mean I just move my hand anywhere near their head and boom! I dont mind taking the hit but was just curious to see if they do grow out of it and when they usually do. Im just glad its feeding response and not aggression. I have had them for 1 month now and they are eating 1 small F/T rat a week. Both of them have had a 100% clean shed and havnt missed a meal.

Re: Woma Python Handling
I would get a good hook and remove them from their cages with that. They will get used to associating the hook with handling time and the lack of hook with food time.
And it will save you a TON of bloodloss.
Some snakes are simply territorial... Womas are frequently on that list.

Alright thanks Morti I will grab a hook. They know its feeding time when the newspaper goes into their tank, they eat inside their tank. Other than that I can reach right in and pick them up but after a few min of being handled they bite. The bloodloss is pretty funny really. I dont pull back so its not bad. It leaves a perfect bite mark of their teeth allignment.

Re: Woma Python Handling
Even so... if one of them ends up with a tooth hooked in your skin it can cause damage to you and damage to their mouths. It's probably best to try to avoid a bite if you can.

Re: Woma Python Handling
Bindi(my ij carpet) is like that. If i reach in bare handed, i will likely get slammed. But if i either pull her out with a hook, or just sort of pet her with the hook first, I can pull her out no problem. The key is to not hesitate ive noticed.

The problem isnt getting them out. I can get them out easily its when they are out and they are moving around. If I move my hand anywhere in their view I get bit. Getting them out of the tank is no issue at all.
