Scrub Python....
Does anybody have any info on these guys? If this ban starts looking serious, I want to try and get one before its illegal to. I think amethystine pythons are absolutely georgous. And I figure, heck, why not build one more cage...lol
Seriously though, I've seen pictures of them, but really don't know anything about them (needs (temps and humidity), habitat (place of origin), potential size, etc). Any info is appreciated....and of course, if you have any pictures of them, I'd love those too....I can't get enough of 'em
Thanks ya'all!!!
Oh, and please, no bashing me for wanting something I know nothing about.....that's what this thread is for...to learn

Re: Scrub Python....
wow Kobi...i like you more every day lol
Scrubs are pretty much my favorite snake, They are a massive Australian Python. There are many different locals of scrubs out there all ranging in size. Tanimbars are small like 8 feet is a big one. But they have a vicious attitude usually. In general scrubs arent the best for handling, but if you get a CBB animal as a baby you shouldnt need to worry. They are a big snake so you need a big cage. The biggest one is usually about 15 feet, butsince this is a thin bodied snake it really doesnt look 15 feet when its curled up, I would say a minumum sized cage would be a 6'x2'x2', but a good cage for them IMO would be a 6'x3'x4', they are a fairly arboreal snake and will climb. From what ive gathered on them, they are a fairly slow growing snake aswell. Temps and conditions are similar to carpet pythons, You want a cool side temp of around 80 and a basking temp of 95.
Another thing ive gathered is that the Merauke(spelling?) Scrub is generally the calmest
heres some pics for you of one of the coolest days of my life. I got to handle and see a scrub for the first time ever. It was apparently mean, but it didnt seem like that at all
this guy was 12 feet, Curled up in the cage, he looked more like 8
enjoy

Re: Scrub Python....
I had some bar necks and tanimbars and they were pretty easy to work with.
at least after they got over the "im gonna kill you" phase.
which the bar necks were bad about, the tanimbars (which were WC) were much less aggro

Re: Scrub Python....
Curtis said he is going to leave me if I get anymore animals..... hopefully he will change his mind. I mean really, the snakes are so easy....its the dogs that drive us nuts, but in his mind, its all the animals together. I spend my time with them though because he likes his alone time, and I don't like to be bored. All the kids keep me busy, and I love taking care of them!! I've got a routine, and another snake will not throw that off. It would actually help. It would give Kobi and Jezi more peace, throwing another snake in the snuggle mix lol
Soooo, I sent him a text message with a picture of it and said "Its a red merauke amethystine python. Please!!!!! Its not like you mess with them anyway... you don't have to do anything with the snakes, so I'm sure. Happy Valentines day to me? I love you!!"
He just texted me back and asked "how much?"
I told him "$150, but I am going to try and talk him down because its a male."
He wrote back "Get it. I'll pack my stuff this weekend"
I think he's going to crack...lol

Re: Scrub Python....
yah...but if i want to get one I have to go through the cities paperwork to get it to canada most breeders dont want to go through that for a $150 snake, there arent alot of scrubs in canada either that I can find, I like to know what locale my snakes are, and in canada 90% are Just "Scrubs" there are rarely listed by locale

Re: Scrub Python....
Amongst pythons, those are some of the few I like. Molluccans are still my favorites. Congrats on the new kid, and good luck with it. Study hard.
