affordable ball morphs?
I've been debating between a smaller subspecies of boa and a ball python lately. Balls seem a bit small and a tad boring.... LOVE the look of many boas but the size scares me a bit--- over 7ft is too much snake for me.
The normal patterns on a ball dont interest me visually (don't get me wrong, they're still beautiful animals) so I was looking into morphs.
Now I hear that certain morphs, aside from being expensive have health drawbacks to the snake. For instance, it has been mentioned that spiderballs have a bad head wobble problem.
What morphs are safe for the animal and wont set me back more than 600 bucks for the purchase? Anyone know any reputable breeders I can contact?
Thanks,
-Mark-

Re: affordable ball morphs?
You could get some really nice pastels for under 600.
Found a cinnamon for that as well. (I'll be adding to the list as I look them up. Yes, I'm that bored.)
Reduced pattern and Blackback for 250 and 300 respectively from Harford Reptile, though the genetics for both are unproven.

...And I give you: kingsnake.com Classifieds '07 female spiderballs for 500!
(Technically not me. I have no idea whose they are. I was just linking.)

Re: affordable ball morphs?
Spend the little extra and get a lesser or albino.
Not all spiders wobble. You could get them in your price range.
Too many BP's.............Not enough money.

Re: affordable ball morphs?
Well, if price wasn't the issue, I'd recommend a Mojave ball, but the cheapest I've seen them for around here's $800. But they are definetely my favorite morph!

Re: affordable ball morphs?
Pastels, Yellowbellys, Granites, Het albino's, Spiders, mojaves....
These have all become pretty affordable to most recently...
I won't post prices from Daytona as I just don't feel right doing so... they were disgusting enough as it was...lol...
Find something in your general price range, Research your breeder(s), Let them know what your trying to do and what you have to work with. Whether it be a payment plan or he helps u out on the overall price. There's differen't breeders that are willing to help you aqcuire that morph that you've been wanting....
Hope that helps and keep us updated on what you decide to go with!
PS. Show's are where your going to get your best "deal" and it will also allow you to get to know a breeder and see some of the other project he's been working with as well. You also can't beat the networking...

Re: affordable ball morphs?
Thanks for all the help guys.
I think I've made up my mind... the Caulker Cay boa seems to be a great fit for me. The axanthic ball was what I had my heart set on but they run over 1k for males and 2k for females. I set 500 or under aside for the snake and 500 for the housing setup....
Being colorblind, I love the monochromatic snakes out there (colorful patterned snakes just make my poor brain hurt with confusion )
So I started out wanting an axanthic ball---too expensive
Then a short-tailed amarali boa----not as docile and too big
Now on the Caulker Cay boa---- small boa, docile, greyish tones...think I found my snake!
Now I'm off to start building its new home
Thanks for the help guys,
-Mark-
