Setting up a Rubbermaid (Sterlite) tub..
Hey everyone.. well, I'm trying to move my ball into a Sterlite.. I got the 41 qt for my 3 ft. BP.. so, I thought I finally got it down at 80 earlier, but my ambient temp stays at around 75 - 76 degrees.. and my rheostat's lowest setting seems to keep the heat mats at like 100+ degrees.. so, I raised my tub about 2 inches from the heat mats.. and that keeps the hot side at just about 90.. my concern is the cool/ambient temp.. how do I raise it without raising hot temp?
Also, my humidity is held a lot better.. =D.. 60%.. and hasn't changed since I drilled the last set of holes.

Re: Setting up a Rubbermaid (Sterlite) tub..
For the ambient temp you should cut a hole big enough for a lamp then put wire mesh there attached with zip ties. (can't find pics). Drill small holes around the big hole to attach the mesh and top with zip ties. Then get a heat lamp and red heat bulb. That should keep the ambient temp up to were it needs to be 80-82.

Heat lamp with sterilite? I don't think so. Natural sunlight and a UTH is fine.

Re: Setting up a Rubbermaid (Sterlite) tub..
Use heat tape. Cheaper and better than a petstore UTH.
Careful with bulbs. The fixture itself gets hit and could melt the tub plus tubs are not as tall as cages so it would be tough to not have one super hot spot.
This was a temp setup I put together. 8 32 qt tubs with 2 sets of 4 inch heat tape wired in 2 groups of 4 and controlled by a herpstat.
Works great.

Ditto...do not use a lamp (with any type of bulb) in a plastic tub! Bad, Bad, very bad idea!

Re: Setting up a Rubbermaid (Sterlite) tub..
Sorry. I guess it works for me because my tub is more than a foot high. I didn't realize most tubs where much smaller in height.

Re: Setting up a Rubbermaid (Sterlite) tub..
So are you saying I shouldn't be using this heat lamp.... Nightlight Red Reptile Bulb By Zoo Med For Less
Even though it makes my temps perfect at 83 ambient and 91 basking spot? The tub is (and I just measured this) 1' 3".

No, he's saying I shouldn't use one because my tub is 6 inches tall.
