I had been gone for a few days and when i came back my burm's tank was absolutely terrible looking. She had poo-ed, and at some time flipped her water dish. This i was not very worried about, just figured i should clean the tank, but she had her head straight up constantly. I took her out, gave her a bath and soon after noticed a bit of a rash on the bottom of her head. I'm treating it with mineral oil and polysporin, but i haven't had the pleasure of dealing with scale rot(?)before. So, any help would be great. Also, i would post a picture but my digital camera got broke the other day, so if it doesn't clear up i will post a pic. later this week.

Neosporin or polysporin....any antibiotic ointment 2-3 times a day till next shed should be all you need since you seem to have caught it early. I don't think mineral oil is going to help anything though and could possibly even put a barrier between the antibotics and the skin. Also, remove any substrate and just use newspaper until cleared up. Good luck. If you see any puss oozing out he will need an antibiotic/vet visit but if treated with ointment and kept clean and dry everything should clear up. There is also a chance that he just got stained from the crap....but best to treat as scale rot anyway....polysporin on healthy skin won't hurt anything.

OH....make sure whatever oinment you are using does not boast of having pain releiver (lidocaine)

The 'stained' thought had already occured to me, but as I said, she had had a bath before I noticed it; one. And two; there is a little bit of swelling around the bottomedge of her mouth from the rash itself. Also, she has not been resting the bottom of her head on anything and she is a little touchy about it. But thanks a lot, the whole thing had me worried a good bit. HAHAHAHA! After a mere day, the rash on her ching is clearing up. I am going to continue treating her for a week or so, maybe more. Either way, the first dose of polysporin seemed to help a lot.
