My Ball Python (Barney) seems to have hurt himself. When I got him out earlier today he has a nasty wound on his hiead. It isn't bleeding but looks very raw, as if he rubbed the scales right off of the top part of his head. He seems nomal in his behavior, but i am concerned. This is the first time I have had an injured snake? Any advice?

If you've decided not to take him to a Vet then I'd put some Neosporin on the wound. Applying oinments to the head and face of a snake can be a little challenging for some specimens...use a Q-tip. Keep a close eye on the wound for the next day or two. If it looks like it's getting any worse, i.e., infected, get him to a Vet ASAP. If you haven't already, find out what he may have rubbed on to cause such a wound and see if there's a way of preventing him from doing further injury. Was he just trying to get out of the cage? Was he trying to shed?

Thanks Ninja..

The wound doen't look to bad, but it does raise some concern. I believe he did it trying to shed, so i removed a few of his more jagged pieces of rock and put his old plastic fig tree back in. I gave him a bath and used a little neosporene. I will keep a close eye on him

thanks ninja
