The visit with the doctor today for Rex went great, mostly. He is enjoying good health given his history. No
mites!!! No internal parasites or signs of inflammation in his fecal sample. No RI or any other potential infection. His weight of 1.5 yrs ago was 1524 gr, today it is 1730 gr. I am to continue his feeding of 2 small rats every 2-3 weeks. Doctor is pleased with the continued healing with each shed of his burns and the way his colors are coming in along his back. I'm explaining this poorly - he was 'healed' when I got him but the scarring (whatever) had destroyed almost of the patterns/colors on his back and his sheds were difficult. Doctor is very pleased with the amount of flexibility Rex has given the amount of scar tissue along the spine.
However . . . and why does there have to be a however . . . he is feeling some excess bony growth along the spine due to the excessive scar tissue. He suggested that for Rex I maintain a fairly constant low to mid 80s from side to side in his home. He said that this, with more humidity. should cause Rex to not take such long soaks (this last soak was over 1.5 days). If these changes do not help - then it is possible that Rex is soaking to relieve 'pain' along his spine, similar to arthritus/inflammation. There is new anti-inflammatory medication out for reptiles that would be of benefit to Rex when he needs them - not if . . . when. My poor baby!!! He can't be much more than 4 - 5 yrs old, if that. But there is no telling exactly how old he is cuz the people who brought him into the store where I bought him did not say. *sigh*
Bought him? Well - he adopted me right off and I had to bring him home.

He is the most gentle creature and never offered to strike once, at anybody. Wanted to get some pics today but decided to wait as I felt he should get back into his home after the stress of today. So when I get him out, either tomorrow or Friday, will get some new pics and post them. He really is beautiful IMHO. I am going to ask my friend if we can build Rex a new home at his place - since am lacking in a few tools now as well as space for building. Then will use heat tape to better heat his home and it will then keep a more consistant humidity level - Doctor does not like heat lamps but it's the best we can do for now. Now I just hope my 'friend' will agree . . . hehe
