As some of you my remember, though it is doubtful, I have an albino burm at home, who by the way, is doing great. She is STILL always hungry and STILL has attitude issues: she still hisses regularily but is unmistakably kitten tame. Where is this 'disaster' you may be asking yourself...well, I shall reward your impatience now. For christmas, I am getting my girlfriend a ferret. I you have not peiced this together yet, remember that my burm is over 7 ft and could make an expensive appetizer of a ferret...me and my damned failure to think of consequences. "Don't worry, she'll leave the ferret alone..." <-- this is how I kid myself into thinking that nothing will happen.

Why would this be a problem?
Is the ferret going to be loose in the house.... or does your Burm have free roam?
If not then why would one have to know the other even exists.
People keep cats and snakes all the time without problems so why should a ferret be any different.
Use common sense and good cages and all should be ok!

Well noted, but I also keep cats, and they have both had little run ins with my burm. I stopped it before anything could happen and, not to mention, if anything had, the cats are big enough to defend themselves where as the ferret could not. To answer your question, no, neither roam freely, but both will be out on frequent occasion and I am a firm believer in Murphy's Law. Certain things are, in a sense, unavoidable. On the other hand, I do not doubt that I could keep these things from happening 99% of the time, but I will not always be able to. The cat for instance, got into the closed bathroom when my burm was having a bath. Now, with the door closed and no threat of immediate mishaps, I was not watching the cat nor the snake and I doubt that you would have been either. This is where my problem comes in. I am worrying myself about ifs. If my snake were to get the ferret, the ferret would be gone and the snake would be gone, care of my girlfriend. I have a very deep rooted attachment with my burm, and this is why I am troubled by this issue.

Ferrets are related to the mongoose so it may just whoop up on the burm!
But several members here have cats and ferrets and snakes with no problems at all.
Princenez and Ravnos off the top of my head, have them.

I understand your problems... and you are right about Murphy's Law.
As far the ferret goes I would not understimate how fast and nasty those little guys can be.
All you can do is be very careful and watch things very closely.
Good luck with them!

If I was you, I would try to avoid any contact whatsoever between the two. Also, make sure you wash your hands after handling the ferret and before handling the burm. If not, you'll regret it.

I have 3 ferrets, 7 cats, 4 dogs... and have -never- had an issue between any of them and a snake. Just exercise some common sense and make sure you clean up before working with the snake.

I really don't see what the worry is all about here. We have kept dogs, cats , RABBITS & rats all as pets here [ HEY! RAt was not mine..I think of them as snake food lol] along with many snakes.I have never had a snake so much as bother to even try and get at any dog or cat while they are out. AND if snakes come out , then rabbits can not is all. Just use extra caution and ya should be fine is all. One of our cats even sits on the side of the tub while snakes are bathing in the tub and not lil ole snakies either hehe. He's one that looks for trouble but the snakes do not bother him ..yet.

I have 3 ferrets, 2 cats, and 3 dogs. Trust me, I don't want to find out who is tougher. My ferret will beat up on my german shepard mix. Anyway, I have noticed that the ferrets will try to get into the Burms cage. I have also noticed my burm trying to get out to see what the ferret is. I just make sure that they cant get to each other. Just remember ferrets are SUPER smart and will figure out locks on cages so I would find a way to make the latch on the cage very ferret proof. I also just wanted to throw in that PLEASE do your research on the ferrets also. a lot of people get them because they are "cute" and don't realize how much work they are. All 3 of mine are from people just not wanting them anymore and boy did they come to me in bad shape.

I'd haveto agree with everyone else.
I have a Peach Fronted Conure that pretty much gets free roam of the house everyday from after I get home from work till dark when she puts her-self to bed in the cage. I handle my most of my snakes when she's out, but never my Annie. BUt for good reason. . .my annie is VERY . . .VERY. . .VERY fond of chicks and fowl in general (ie quail. ducklings, etc). Whenever the bird lands on or near the annies enclousure she immediately raises up to investigate. I had to move the bird's enclosure to the kitchen because everytime I handled the annie when the bird's enclousure was in the same room she went nuts (from the smell of the bird I assume) and would not still at all when outside of the vivarium.
So whatever you do dont start feeding your burm ferrets on a regular basis or you'll have REAL PROBLEM heheheeee
