Mites Florida, mites and pet snakes...

Hey all,

I live in orlando and occasionally I like to give my snakes 15 or so minutes of excersice outside in my potted ficus tree. The only thing is, I just noticed they now have a few, not many at all, but maybe one or two each, mites. eggh, it sucks, and i am experienced enough to rid of the properly but the thing is, i had plans to move this tree indoors! What do others in town do about this? just not let their animals out at all? It's either chilling in the tree or the aspen bedding that I bought from a local shop. It makes more sense that its from hanging outside but still, its rather disheartening as I like to have chill in the tree and take natural photos and such.

anyway, just looking for some thought opinions, anything really...

luis

snake mites dont come from tree's

they come from other snakes

have you brought a new animal into your collection recently?
or brought in anything else that could of exposed them?
Also, I have heard of people getting mites brought in via aspen bedding from petstores that have mite problems.

I've never witnessed this, but have heard a few semi reliable sources tell me its happened to them.

Also, what do they look like, they may not be snake mites.

no new additions at all. nor have I had anyone bring over their animals at all. They are tiny grey mites that look like your typical snake mite, hanging under the chin scales.

well, i do feel better. I didnt realise that mites dont just hang out in trees so it most likely is from the bedding. I think I will change to cypress mulch that I will bake weekly during my routine cleanings. well this is rather disheartening, being that maybe it came from the only true herp store in town. ce la vie... time to get some reptile relief or something similar.

If you only see one or two, assume there are 100-200.

Just FYI

sometimes an infestation can go on awhile before it starts becoming evident.

Nice to meet you! I'm sarcastic..

I was only agreeing with an earlier post that mites come from other reptiles with mites.. the seemingly undecipherable message would be less cryptic if you spent any time reading your Bible!

Preach brother.

I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you.
