You MUST be a troll. No one said you were a newbie...in fact you were told that you obvioulsy have plenty of experience...new to the site doesn't mean new to snakes...we all know that. You really do think your snakes have reasoning abilities....at 58?...c'mon, now...you seem intelligent enough to know better. And now you're attcking people for reasons that you've pulled out of thin air and way off topic....please stop trolling...you're going to end up banned.

You would have a hard time keeping the temps and humidity at the right levels too.

Uhm, ... excuse me ... but you DO sound babaric! Not so much because of putting them rats into a margarine pot, but because you are feeding rats (?????) to an eighty pound boa?! That's about enough to fill a hollow tooth.
As to feeding live, you are absolutely right - hunting skills come natural to a snake and it will know what prey's safe and what's not. However, our snakes aren't living in the wild. They are in enclosures and when live prey is introduced into such an enclosure that turns out to be more than our snakes can handle they don't have the oportunity to choose retreat in order to stay safe.
"Would you expect a person to change their habits if it makes them miserable?" - Ever heard about evolution? Perhaps adaption?
Noticed that you are using a computer that a hacker can easily hijack? That's probably not anything anyone would wish for, but we all know it happens every day ... and we keep on typing. We got used to that persistent threat and adapted by putting sky-high firewalls up.
I hate my cell phone. It keeps ringing while I'm going down the road, it rings when I go to the bathroom, it rings while I'm sitting in front of the computer. I want to throw it out the window, but I can't, cause my business relies on staying in contact with the clients at all times ... I have it within arms reach at all times. I adapted to the reoccuring evil sound that it makes (oh yeah, I remember 10 years ago ... no cell phones ... wonderful silence).
So, do I expect my snakes to adapt to f/t in order to keep them safe? You better believe it!!!

He's only trying to get attention and start arguments. IMO, we should ignore this thread and let it die. It serves no purpose. There are dozens of other threads on this site for visitors to learn more about their snakes and no member is learning anything from this. Please let the drama die...

Snakes don't have such specific emotions such as PRIDE like we do.... so they don't take pride in making a kill. They even kill f/t when its already dead.... They kill because they have to.
softkiss, just go away already. And there's no reason for you to make 3-4 fricken posts in a row.

If you love your snake, why expect it to go against all that nature has taught it to survive. The proudest my Argentines ever are is when they stalk and kill their food. It keeps their temperament great and I've tried giving them dead food and they got so down and showed no enthusiasm and actually there was a big change in their disposition. Do you have snakes to make your care for them less demanding and irritating, or do you have snakes to care for them and love them and accept what comes natural to them? Would you expect a person to change their habits if it makes them miserable?

It might just be over my head but let me be devils advocate and assume that live feeding is good for your snake even excluding the fact that parasites germs cost ect. but most people don't have an enclosure bigger than 10x4x4 assuming that every reptile person doesn't agree that it is better to feed your snake outside of the enclosure, can you please tell me how the snake can hunt and stalk when it is 7-8 ft long and 80 lbs and right in front of his face in the enclosure and you already said you don't let the snake free roam. As far as natural instincts I am sure that in the wild that they eat when they want to eat not when you toss the food in the enclosure. If you would post some pics that would illustrate your enclosure I would really appreciate it so I can build one for my snake that gives it enough room to stalk and hunt the prey comfortably at its large size

This may be totally off base, but I have talked to a lot of people around here that said their snakes were really really cage aggressive and they couldn't calm them down. However, within a month of taking them off of live feeding they became "dog tame" and didn't strike anymore. Just a thought...

I know I post twice in a row (like this) often, but I was also wondering what was up with the 4 posts in a row thing...
