Came across a Baby pic of my Delilah.
Yeah, she was a fluffy baby
One of my favorite snakes, I shudder to think how close she came to be euthanized.
When I first got her, there was about a 4 inch section right below her head, where her skin was like hard, wrinkled "sandpaper"...it wouldn't/couldn't expand at all...
Therefore she couldn't eat at all. She was only a very small baby, and her neck (the wrinkly hard part) was less then half an inch in circumfence.
I'm not sure how she got that injury but I "suspect" someone tried to "help" her shed and took the good skin off.
Her sibling was slightly smaller then her, and already took hopper and small adult mice.
I then decided to give her a chance and "assist fed" her teeny tiny pinky mice. Size of jelly beans.
She took several of those meals quite readily as soon as I nudged her mouth with them, she would open up and take them.
I think it was after about 5 of those teeny meals that she went into shed. I held my breath and made sure that the humidity was high enough and that she could soak.
She had a PERFECT shed, and underneath that yucky hard wrinkly skin, there was NEW skin, healthy and pliable
It still looked a bit different and it took about 5 sheds until you couldn't tell the difference anymore.
And look what a healthy and fluffy baby she turned into ...and of course, she is also a wonderful and beautiful adult. She has always been inquisitive and doesn't stress about anything, never misses a meal.
A truly fun and loveable snake
truly love that snake
